Hirwaun Power is a power generation station that can help support the UK’s future energy security and ensure that the country meets its low carbon emission targets. All efforts will be made to ensure that it causes minimum impact on the environment during construction and operation.
Hirwaun Power is a low-carbon power generation plant that can help address the UK's future energy gap whilst also helping to ensure that the country meets its carbon emission targets. All efforts will be made to ensure that the project causes minimum impact on the environment during its construction and operation.
The planning procedures stipulate that we must carry out an environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the power station. The full suite of EIA documents, including the Environmental Statement, Non-Technical Summary and associated maps and figures, is available on the Planning Inspectorate’s website. It examines all of the ways in which the power station will affect its surroundings and is a reflection of the extensive environmental surveys carried out. Issues such as noise, air emissions, ecology, visual impact, archaeology and transport have all been considered carefully.
The EIA forms a central part of the application for a Development Consent Order and assesses the impact of the whole project including the power plant itself, the electrical connection and the gas connection.
The Hirwaun Power Station can bring a range of benefits to the local area, both during construction and operation. Construction will take 18-36 months and will provide job opportunities for between 150 and 250 skilled and semi-skilled workers.
The plant is expected to have an operational life of 25 years during which time up to 15 full time staff will be required at the plant with a significant number of indirect jobs supported in the local community in facility maintenance and other lines of work. In addition, the facility will make a major contribution to local business rates and will play an active role in the local community. A detailed socio-economic impact study has been submitted as part of the DCO application.
If you are a local business or individual interested in working on or with the project either during construction or operation and would like to be kept informed of developments, please contact Hirwaun Power via firstname.lastname@example.org.
